Hello! We are winding down the school year, but what a great year it has been! There has been so many successes and wonderful achievements with our students. The U.S. History students have chosen a decade out of the 1900's to research and put together presentations. They will be giving their presentations the last week of school.

The World Studies students are studying about Ancient China! We will be covering their economy, political structure, discoveries, and their contact with the outside world. Look to their class pages for more information!

Thank you for all of your support!

Hello! Time has flown by and I apologize for my negligence on keeping up on the wiki-spaces, but each class is now currently up to date. It was wonderful to see you at the open house! The students were very proud to be able to show off their work and explain the structure and workings of their school-thank you!

NEW POINT SYSTEM
In all of the classes, we have started a point system for the students to earn structured free time. Each class period every student begins with 3 participation points and have opportunities to earn extra points that count as towards the class goal. We started out with every 50 points, they earn 20 minutes of free time, but through a very democratic and diplomatic process, every class voted to work towards earning 300 points so they would be able to watch a movie (G or PG) without interruption.

Students earn points by staying on task, raising their hand, not interrupting, working together in a group, answering questions, helping other students, etc. Students also can have points taken away by not staying on task, being too loud, interrupting, not working together, etc. I have a 1, 2, 3 strip on every table where the points are kept track of.

This has worked great to keep them aware of their own behavior, peer support, working together towards one goal, and overall community building. There has not been any complaining about the movie selection either since the class voted through a list and eliminated each movie until majority ruled!

The standings are as follows:
U.S. History A1: 73 points-Beverly Hills Chihuahua
World History A3: 93 points-Kung Fu Panda
World History A4: 51 points-Night at the Museum

U.S. History B2: 14 points (started a little later)-Bedtime Stories
U.S. History B3: 40 points- Bedtime Stories

I will also begin to have study guides and pre-reading sheets uploaded on the wiki-spaces for students to complete at home as a pre-teaching and study skill building tools. Please look for these in the next week.
Thank you very much for your patience and I am looking forward to a great spring!

Ms. Dougherty
